Prospect Park is a 585-acre urban oasis and boasts a stunning array of natural features and landscape, including Brooklyn's only forest, a 60-acre lake, shaded hillsides, beautiful waterfalls, and rolling meadows. The Park offers visitors a wide array of public programs and activities, from bird watching tours and nature trail walks, to pedal boating, field sports, tennis and picknicking. Landmarked Prospect Park is also the site of over 300 years of history, including the site of the Revolutionary War's Battle of Brooklyn, an 18th century Dutch farmhouse, the noble monuments and statues to Civil War heroes at Grand Army Plaza, and a vintage, hand-carved 1912 carousel. The Park's Beaux Arts 1905 Boathouse is home to the nation's first urban Audubon Center, providing visitors with an opportunity to learn about the natural environment through state-of-the-art, hands-on learning.
