First Lady Michelle Obama presented high honors to the Brooklyn Cultural Adventures Program for youth education at a ceremony last month at the White House. The program garnered the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award.
The winning initiative, run by Heart of Brooklyn - a partnership of leading cultural organizations in the borough - was one of just 15 chosen across the country, of 400 which were nominated. The National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award is the highest honor such programs can achieve in the United States.
Along with the award, Heart of Brooklyn receives $10,000 to support its educational programming.
The BCAP program has engaged over 4,000 young students since it began in 1998.
